Sansa e260 on Ubuntu 9.04

19/06/2009

My Sansa e260, which is running Rockbox wasn’t recognised when connected to Ubuntu. My solution to the problem is as follows:

  1. Change USB mode to MTP by booting original firmware (hold « and power on) and selecting Settings > USB Mode > MTP.
  2. Install Ubuntu Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) tools:
$ sudo apt-get install mtp-tools mtpfs
  1. Replace Rhythmbox Music Player with Banshee Media Player using the Applications > Add/Remove menu. Banshee provides better support for portable media players.

With Banshee I can now add music, which is encoded using flac, to my Sansa e260 using the LAME (mp3) encoder. Brilliant!
